The model is made in three different versions that are now generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3". A series of transitions between Series 1 and Series 2 is known unofficially as "Series 1 ½".
In addition, some of which are produced as limited editions:
- The "'Lightweight' E-Type" which seems intended as a kind of follow-up to D-Type. Jaguar planned to produce 18 units but ultimately only a dozen are reported built. Of those, there are known to have been destroyed and two others have been converted to coupé form. It is very rare and sought after by collectors.
- The "Low Drag Coupé" is a one-off technical exercise which eventually sold to Jaguar drivers. It is currently believed to be part of private collections from the current Viscount Cowdray.
